Shelves Plan - Build an Invisible-Mount Floating Shelf

Super-strong wall shelves can hold an entire library of books! Simple mounting system uses lag screws driven through the back rail of shelf into wall studs.

We dressed up the shelf substructure with three pieces of shop-made molding. You can make
all three pieces in your shop, or buy the 1/2" cove molding at your local home center.

Versatile plan can be altered to create just about any length or width of shelf you want. And for a look different from the Craftsman version shown here, we've included plans for a painted Colonial version. This project appeared in Workbench magazine No. 261.
